Are you choosing fear or hope (confident expectations) to make your decisions

What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Behind us lie a mountain of memories, before us lie an infinite amount of possibilities, within us lies the power to choose how we experience our lives.

Choosing to buy the new bike is easy. Choosing to get back on it after you’ve fallen off is hard.

Applauding your friend when they won the game is easy. Consoling your friend after they made the error that lost the game is hard.

Choosing what to watch on tv is easy. Choosing how to respond to a spouse who’s cheating on you is hard.

How do you react when the times are tough, when the chips are down, when the experiences are tearing you apart? Do you know that you have a choice in how to react? How do you make that choice?

How would the world be different if we all believed Emerson’s statement about the awesome power that lives within us all? Would we let our fears drive our decisions? Or, would we let our hopes and dreams drive our decisions?

By a decision we know that the spirit of God is inside us. By a decision we know that the creator of the universe lives within us. By a decision, we need to learn to look away from our own fears. By a decision, we need to look towards the hope that God has promised to us. By a decision, we learn to trust that the creator of the universe is on our side and wanting to help us. Make that decision.

What does God say about providing for us?

Philippians 4:19 ESV “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

Matthew 6:31-32 ESV “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.”

Luke 12:24 ESV “Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!”

Ephesians 2:8-10 ESV “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Psalm 34:10 ESV “The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.”

1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

John 14:26 ESV “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
